We are in the midst of Summerfest, and this week’s edition of the B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes serves as a preview of the festival’s second half. It’s a stacked playlist this week, as we have new music from Reyna, Lex Allen, MT Twins, Immortal Girlfriend and more. Don’t forget that you can follow Breaking And Entering on Spotify for more playlists, and check out this week’s playlist below:

AUDIO: Reyna – “The Way I Loved You”

Indie pop duo Reyna always have big things on the horizon it seems, but just after being named as one of the most recent Backline selections, the Banuelos sisters are back with a new single, “The Way I Loved You”. The song is built around a grooving bass line, and has summer pop written all over it. In many cases, it might be hard to make a song about longing for someone upbeat and fun, but Reyna manage to do that with this extra-polished single. We’ve heard that the duo have plenty of things in the works, including a Summerfest appearance this year, and undoubtedly the Backline will only streamline things for the band. Check out “The Way I Loved You” below:

Backline Announces Spring 2019 Program Participants

Since its inception last year, the Backline program from 88Nine Radio Milwaukee and Gener8or has proven to envigorate the Milwaukee music scene. Last night, the program announced the selected participants of their Spring 2019 program: Klassik, Kaylee Crossfire, and Reyna.

As participants of the program, they’ll be given a $20,000 grant, along with a twelve-week music industry mentorship course. As we’ve seen from the experiences of previous recipients like Zed Kenzo, and Lex Allen, this can be an invigorating boost to their careers.

Over 200 local acts submitted to be part of the Backline program for this edition, and the selected artists were chosen by representatives from Gener8or through a strong vetting process. There will be more editions of Backline in the coming months, with another application window opening in the near future. For more information about Backline, including how to submit for upcoming programs, check out their website at BacklineMKE.org

B&E Weekly Jams Presented By Bublr Bikes: 5/12 – 5/18/19

With the official start of summer just around the corner, we know that the release calendar for music nationwide is about to break wide open, with everyone competing for the the title of “song of the summer”. Locally, that’s being replicated with Milwaukee releases, and you can hear some of the new sounds being brought to the city in this week’s B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes! This week, you can check out new music from Fuzzysurf, Jaecar featuring Genesis Renji, WillOnWater, and plenty more! Don’t forget to follow Breaking And Entering on Spotify for more playlists, and you can check out this week’s Weekly Jams below:

VIDEO: Reyna – “Heartbeat”

Since rebranding themselves as Reyna, sisters Vic and Gab Banuelos have yet to disappoint with a single that they’ve released, delivering with endless dreamy synth-pop. That trend continued with 2018’s “Heartbeat”, and we now have the oddly-satisfying video directed by Savannah Ziemann to accompany the track. There’s baking, luchadors being held hostage, and a non-stop dance party to a super-catchy single. What more could you want? The video is a kick-start to what should be another great year for the duo, and you can check it out below:

B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes: 1/20 – 1/26/19

There’s no nice way to say this; it’s fucking cold outside. That being said, you’ll be indoors most of the time this week, and with that, we have your soundtrack with another week of B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes. You can keep up with the latest in Milwaukee music, with new tracks from Zed Kenzo, Camb, Mudy and plenty more. We also try to help you think warm thoughts with summery electronic tracks from Plaid Hawaii & Dashcam featuring Liv, Reyna, and a remix from GGOOLLDD. Check out this week’s playlist below. Is it summer yet?

B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes: 12/23 – 12/29/18

B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes: 10/28 – 11/3/18

Somehow, someway, we enter November this week. As we reach the final months of the year, it’s hard not to think about how much incredible music has already been made in Milwaukee in 2018. That being said, we have a lot of great new music in this week’s B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes. This week’s playlist features new music from Genesis Renji, Nile, Crystal Knives, Reyna, and many more. Don’t forget to follow us on Spotify for more, and check out this week’s playlist below:

AUDIO: Reyna – “Heartbeat”

We haven’t heard from indie-pop outfit Reyna since the release of the ever-so-catchy “Baby Forget It” back in May. The band has a tendency to let a single breathe, and keep a consistent flow of music coming out, rather than dropping a project and taking extended time off. The latest from Reyna is “Heartbeat”, which debuted yesterday via Nylon Magazine. The track deals with missing a significant other, with Gabriella Banuelos handling the majority of vocals this time around. With this collection of single, Reyna have found a way to grow as a band while staying on fans’ radars near constantly. Check out “Heartbeat” below:

B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes – 8/26 – 9/1/2018

B&E Weekly Jams – 7/8 – 7/14/2018

Now that we’re officially out of the Summerfest madness, we decided to bring you a special recap edition of your B&E Weekly Jams. This week we’re looking at some of the best local music from Summerfest, featuring tracks from Abby Jeanne, B~Free, new music from Rocket Paloma, and more. Don’t forget to follow us on Spotify, and check out the B&E Weekly Jams below:

INTERVIEW: Reyna

Milwaukee’s own Reyna had a big show on Wednesday afternoon, playing the Miller Lite Oasis in front of a huge Summerfest crowd. The Banuelos sisters are no stranger to big moments like this, but the show definitely felt good, even if they got poured on by the rain. We caught up with Reyna backstage before their show to talk about performing, as well as new music plans that are in the works. Check it out below:

You can also view this video on our IGTV Channel.

B&E Weekly Jams: 6/3/18 – 6/9/18

We’ve made it into June, and dare I say it, I think it’s safe to say that it’s summer now? Anyway, with that in mind, we have a great new mix for you this week, with new music from Reyna, DC The Don, Paper Holland, and Amanda Huff. The back half of the playlist has a very summer-y feel to it, as well, including fun tracks from Dashcam, Body Futures, The Fatty Acids, and more. Embrace the (sorta) heat with this week’s B&E Weekly Jams via Spotify below:

AUDIO: Reyna – “Baby Forget It”

If you’re making a summertime playlist, the new track from Reyna, “Baby Forget It”, is one you definitely need to add. The track is the group’s latest release in a string of singles, and their first in a couple of months. It sounds as though the synth-pop sound that Vic and Gab were pushing forward with has matured, as there’s both analog and digital elements in the track that really give it a fuller sound. With plenty of bass, and a synth-driven chorus that will make you think of beach parties (or block parties), this is definitely a summer jam. Hopefully we’re getting more from Reyna soon, but for now, check out the song you’ll have stuck in your head for the early summer with, “Baby Forget It” below:

B&E Weekly Jams – 5/6/18 – 5/12/18

It’s the second week of May, which means… not much, really. But we have a new edition of the B&E Weekly Jams for you to check out! There’s new music from Sharrod Sloans, Mike Regal, Lorde Fredd33, Twan Mack, Amanda Huff, and Tapebenders. There’s also some of the new talent in Frugal Stu & The Coupons, a preview of the new Tigernite record, and even some Die Kreuzen in there for a throwback on classic Milwaukee music. Check out the playlist below:

International Women’s Day Featuring The Women of Milwaukee’s Music Scene

Being that today is International Women’s Day, it feels only right to honor the women currently making music in Milwaukee. When you look at it, there are a ton of bands either fronted by or featuring female artists on the local level, or breaking out on their own as solo acts. Like most of our playlists, this is probably best to put on shuffle, and enjoy over 30 tracks of some of the best music in Milwaukee, period, that just so happens to also feature women. Hopefully you discover some new names on here, and it is definitely encouraged for you to check out more of their work. Check out our International Women’s Day playlist below:

B&E Weekly Jams: 2/25/18 – 3/3/18

We’ve just about made it through two months of 2018, and the music coming out of Milwaukee this year is already pretty stellar. This week’s B&E Weekly Jams features new music from Kane, Reyna, Soda Road, and many more. The great thing about this weekly playlist is that you can put it on shuffle, and it’s like a sampler of recent Milwaukee music. Don’t forget to follow us on Spotify for more, and check out the playlist below:

AUDIO: Reyna – “Cool With It”

It’s been a little bit since we’ve heard from the sisters Banuelos, better known as Reyna. The band is making a resurgence for this year, however, recently playing the BMO Harris Bradley Center as part of the Milwaukee Bucks’ Milwaukee Mondays series, and now with a new single. “Cool With It” is the newest release, and has all of the potential to be a big hit. With the synth pop sound that we’ve come to know and love from the sisters as Reyna, things sound as though they’ve really hit their stride from a creative standpoint. This is definitely a radio-friendly single, and hopefully this means we’ll hear more from them throughout the course of the year. For right now, check out “Cool With It” below:

B&E Weekly Jams: 1/1/18 – 1/6/18

For many people, today means going back to work after at least a long weekend. Fear not, though, because we’ve got your workday soundtrack with the first in our weekly installments of Spotify playlists, the B&E Weekly Jams. Today brings some of our favorite tracks from 2017, including GGOOLLDD, IshDARR, Sat. Nite Duets, WebsterX, Whips, Rocket Paloma and more! We’ll be dropping ten tracks in a mix for you every week, so make sure you follow Breaking And Entering on Spotify!

RECAP: Arte Para Todos 2017

1 / 18

In a city that is known for music festivals and block parties, Arte Para Todos is unlike any other. By celebrating Milwaukee’s neighborhoods, and with the mission of giving money to local schools’ arts programs, there’s a lot of social good to go along with the chance to see a huge variety of Milwaukee artists play live. We got the chance to see 18 (mostly) local acts over the course of four nights, and it was great to see a lot of faces in the Milwaukee music community supporting their peers, as well. Here’s our night-by-night breakdown:

Thursday, April 27th – Walker’s Point

APT was off to a tremendous start on Thursday, with a strong lineup for one of the city’s ever-transforming neighborhoods. Most of our night was spent at The Local Club Anything, as Pleasure Thief, the side project of NO/NO’s Cat Ries was a pleasant surprise. TableForFour celebrated their one year anniversary of playing live by having a breakout show, with the addition of a custom stage setup, and Iowa’s Crystal City kept things down to earth with their folk singer/songwriter combination. It was then briefly over to Gibraltar for an always entertaining hip hop set from the Rusty Pelicans, who consistently bring the energy with their veteran skill, before returning to The Local. Duckling played a tough, upbeat set, and Klassik managed to slay the stage with an improvised setlist, persevering through initial technical difficulties with ease.

Friday, April 28th – Bay View

It was safe to say that Friday was the pinnacle of Arte Para Todos this year, with some of the toughest lineup choices to make. Our night began with Painted Caves, who brought an array of instruments and sounds to The Tonic Tavern. Next up was a trip to Puddler’s Hall, which paired up the indie dance party that is Mortgage Freeman with local pop-punk standouts and Fat Wreck Chords signees Direct Hit!. The night closed out in style, as we headed down the street to Cactus Club for Zed Kenzo and D’Amato. The combination at the end of the night filled the room, as Zed delivered an incredibly strong set, and D’Amato, complete with local-all-star band in tow, brought the house down as only he could.

Saturday, April 29th – Riverwest

Riverwest’s contribution to Arte Para Todos was, well, distinctly Riverwest, with a mashup of everything from indie to hip hop to experimental electronica. We got things going with Vincent VanGREAT at The Jazz Gallery, who put on an energetic set with the backing talents of Ninja Sauce. From there, it was a pop in at High Dive for electronica from Pressboard, a part of Close Up Of The Serene’s “CleanAir”, a party that thumped music out of the bar for the remainder of the night. A stop in at Mad Planet presented with a technical, thrashing half hour of marathon songs from Teenage Woman, as well as an impressive set from Whips that commanded a huge crowd. We finished out the night with the more serene, layered indie pop provided by Rose Of The West. Our lineup was an diverse amalgam of sorts, but why wouldn’t it be, considering we were in such a wonderfully weird neighborhood?

Sunday, April 30th – East Side

Sunday capped off the festival with a pair of headlining sets at the Back Room at Colectivo on Prospect Ave., featuring Lex Allen and Reyna. Lex is a vocal treasure, keeping things mostly lowkey, but delivering new tracks from his upcoming album, “Table Seven for Sinners and Saints”, due out this year. Reyna finished out the night and the festival on an extraordinarily high note, delivering an energetic set that saw the Gabuelos sisters bouncing along to a mixture of previously released songs and previews of new material, which we’ll likely get to hear in a recorded form soon. They also threw in an encore performance of Vic and Gab era song “Love of Mine”, which was a delightful callback for everyone in the crowd.

All in all, Arte Para Todos was a showcase of Milwaukee as a whole; from the bands themselves, to the neighborhoods, to the art displayed and created during the local acts’ sets. We need more of this sort of thing in this city, and everyone knows it. A thank you is in order to the event organizers, as well as the participating bands, venues, and artists. As Milwaukee grows and undergoes a huge transformation overall, it makes a huge impact to see the community come together for an event like this.

88 Nine RadioMilwaukee 10 Year Anniversary Block Party Lineup Announced

88Nine is having a big year to celebrate a decade of being RadioMilwaukee. In addition to previously announcing a new, all Milwaukee radio station on Milwaukee Day, they’ve also announced a block party in front of their Walker’s Point studio on Saturday, June 24th.  Chicago up and comer and Chance the Rapper collaborator Noname will headline, along with major names Strand of Oaks, Field Report, Reyna, D’Amato, and Abby Jeanne. It’s a big celebration for the station, and we can’t wait to go check it out. Here’s the lineup poster:

AUDIO: Reyna – “Matinee”

Milwaukee indie pop sisters Reyna have been steadily rolling out new music one track at a time, and the group’s latest single, “Matinee”, might be one of their most danceable tracks yet. The song deals with breaking free from a relationship, as depicted in the lyrics. The track is just the latest in a string of catchy singles that Reyna have put out, and all of them combined are helping generate a buzz about the band. Get ready to get addicted to “Matinee”, which you can check out below:

AUDIO: Reyna – “Kill Me”

Milwaukee duo Reyna released a brand new single today, with the deep new track, “Kill Me”. With some introspective lyrics, the song manages to blend moody indie with the synth pop that Reyna is developing into their post-Vic and Gab era sound. The Banuelos sisters manage to put together a song with about a souring relationship and still make it catchy though, which is a testament to the group’s songwriting and production. This is the fourth single released by Reyna, and it would appear as though a full project is either near or already completed. In the meantime, you can check out the new single below:

AUDIO: Reyna – “Magazines”

In a surprise Tuesday release, Milwaukee’s Reyna put out a new single entitled “Magazines”. Keeping their minimal electronic motif alive, this track is captivating, and builds up to a catchy chorus. The shining point of “Magazines”, however, is that it carries all of the songwriting tendencies of former moniker Vic and Gab, with a unique spin reflective of the sisters’ new sound  as Reyna. Previous singles from the group leaned heavier on their electronic components, whereas this one is a welcome blend of old and new for the Banuelos sisters. A full project from Reyna seems imminent, but in the meantime, check out “Magazines” below:
