AUDIO: Gerald Walker – “Congratulations”

Shortly after releasing his EP, “The Little Foxes That Spoil The Vines”, Gerald Walker is back with another release, with new single “Congratulations”. Now on the Blue Collar Gang label, Walker takes to some soulful production, with verses about people trying to get on, but lacking the determination. As we’ve seen from Gerald, his grind is very real, and his talent as a writer and performer is helping him continue to generate a buzz around himself on a larger platform. The steady stream of music from Walker sounds like an indicator of things to come, and we’re likely getting a preview of that with “Congratulations” below:

B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes: 3/10 – 3/16/19

Dare I say it, we may actually be getting out of the throes of winter soon. As the weather warms up, so does the Milwaukee music scene, and you can hear that on this week’s edition of the B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes! This week, we have new music from heavy hitters like Mike Regal, Camb, Gerald Walker and more, plus a throwback from The Shivvers that is always good to throw in the mix to this day. Don’t forget to follow Breaking And Entering on Spotify, and check out this week’s playlist below:

AUDIO: Gerald Walker – “The Little Foxes, That Spoil The Vines”

Just two months after his last release, Gerald Walker is back with another new project, “The Little Foxes, That Spoil The Vines”. Anchored around single “Feel So Real, So Surreal”, which came out earlier this week, Walker delivers a pair of strong tracks on this EP. B-side “I Don’t Mind If You Don’t” leans on a high-pitched vocal sample, with Gerald complimenting the track well in a lower tone. With his trademark slick delivery, Gerald manages to mix hip hop and R&B effortlessly, aided by some laid-back production that creates the perfect canvas for his vocals. Considering that there was only a couple months in between his last release and this one, it’s pretty safe to say that this won’t be the last we hear from Gerald Walker for a while. Check out “The Little Foxes, That Spoil The Vines” below:

If there’s ever been a model for keeping humble and working hard, it’s Milwaukee native Gerald Walker. Now living out of state, and traveling extensively, Walker has been consistent with his sound, and now is gearing up for a new EP, ” The Little Foxes, That Spoil the Vines “, due out this Friday. The new single is “Feel So Real, So Surreal”, a track that features a melodic flow, and an abundance of smooth talk, complete with a female vocal for the hook that completes the mood of the track perfectly. The new EP on Friday will likely be another addition to the catalog of smooth music that Walker has become known for, and you can get the preview with “Feel So Real, So Surreal” below:

B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes: 1/27 – 2/2/19

Welp, we’re in the throes of winter in Wisconsin, and you’ll definitely be spending more time indoors than usual this week. Fortunately, we can think warm thoughts together with a brand new collection of B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes. This week, we have new music from Mvgic, Gerald Walker, Corey Pieper featuring Bee Scott & Denny Lanez, and much more. From hip hop to electronic to country and everywhere between, there’s already a lot of good music coming out of Milwaukee this year. Check out this week’s playlist below:

AUDIO: Gerald Walker – “Cheat Code”

The combination of Milwaukee-turned-international artist Gerald Walker and notable producer Cardo usually yields great results. The pair have worked together on a number of projects, and beats from the Taylor Gang-affiliated producer on Walker’s latest, “Cheat Code”, generally bring out the best from the One Step At A Time Music artist. On the track, Walker provides his trademark smooth flow, which teeters on the lines of hip hop and R&B at times, and mixes in profound bars like “don’t wish for a lighter load / wish for a stronger back”. Gerald has been grinding at his music for the better part of a decade, and his potential on a national level has never been brighter. Hear that for yourself on “Cheat Code” below:

B&E Weekly Jams Presented by Bublr Bikes: 12/23 – 12/29/18

We have holiday music (both pro and anti-Christmas) from Camb and Tigernite, as well as new music this week from Donte Tidmore, Shle Berry, Young Deuces, and plenty more. Have a safe and happy holiday, and enjoy the playlist as an extra present for you below:

AUDIO: Gerald Walker – “People Tell Themselves Anything To Justify Everything”

Few have created their own path that Milwaukee born artist Gerald Walker has over the last decade. The artist has made his way from Milwaukee to Chicago, to New York, to around the world, and continues to evolve his sound, though he was combining hip hop and R&B long before your favorite local artist was doing the same. The latest from Walker is “People Tell Themselves Anything to Justify Everything”, a four-track EP that brings a seemingly reinvigorated Gerald along with it. The first project since 2016’s “Target”, and really the first new music from him save for a pair of singles, it sounds as though Gerald Walker has more confidence than ever with an evolved style that you can hear in his verses. With features from Anoyd and Skyzoo, there is also a more lyrical sound to these tracks, with an emphasis on rapping rather than harmonizing. Gerald Walker is back in full force, and you can hear that on “People Tell Themselves Anything To Justify Everything” below:

B&E Weekly Jams: 2/11/18 – 2/17/18

Installment #7 of our B&E Weekly Jams is here, and this time around we’re showcasing just some of the stellar music that came out of Milwaukee in the last week alone. New tracks from Rocket Paloma, Abby Jeanne, Gerald Walker, and a Valentine’s Day jam from Mic Kellogg all make the cut, along with tracks from Faux Fiction, Deonte Neely Featuring YL64, and a lot more! Don’t forget to follow us on Spotify, and you can check out this week’s playlist below:

AUDIO: Gerald Walker Featuring Rockie Fresh and Stalley – “Peace Of Mine”

After some time away from the microphone, Gerald Walker is back with a new single, and he’s brought along some well known Midwest names in the process. “Peace Of Mine” features Rockie Fresh and Stalley, and the three take turns putting verses to a laid back beat. The contrast in styles gives the track some depth, with the hook from Gerald tying everything together. Walker’s last release came in 2016, in the form of full-length “Target”, but a new track could possibly mean that 2018 will see a new project. In any case, check out the soulful new track below:

AUDIO: Pizzle Featuring Kiara Dupree and Gerald Walker – “Cloudy”

While cleaning out some of the lost files from his “Grand Design” project, Pizzle decided to drop an unmastered version of a track that didn’t make the cut. “Cloudy”, a record from 2014, features fellow local standouts Kiara Dupree and Gerald Walker. It’s interesting to note some of the content from this verse, which came significantly earlier than the final version of “Grand Design”, which didn’t drop until two years later. There’s some slight barbs and several people get name dropped, including CBS 58’s Bill Walsh (re: their “Kilwaukee” story), Interscope A&R Tim Glover, DJBooth.net, (now defunct) hip hop blog 10ToesDown, and even more anonymous mentions. This could have been the spark to a lot of fires, but instead, comes out as a loosie years later. While still a little raw, it’s clear to see that this could have been featured on “Grand Design”, all the way up to it’s 2016 release date. Instead, vibe out to it now below:

AUDIO: Gerald Walker – “Target”

After a slew of mixtape releases, and then a long absence, Gerald Walker’s debut album, “Target” is finally available. The drought between releases is well worth it, though, as Gerald put out a double disc, and there’s also a book available detailing the making of the album. Musically speaking, the flow is the same Gerald Walker that we’ve watched grow and evolve, once again on another level. The assistance on several tracks by The Walker Family accentuates his vocals, too, and are some of the points where the tracks shine their brightest. It’s very apparent that this is a breakthrough for Gerald, who we’ve followed from Milwaukee, to Chicago, to New York (though he still name drops Milwaukee). “Target” is definitely your recommended listening for the day, week, and really quite a long time after that. Congratulations to Gerald for finally getting his release out there on such a major level.

“Target” is available via iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, and physical copies can be picked up here.

AUDIO: Gerald Walker – “No Heart Feelings”

At last, the wait is finally over to hear the start of Gerald Walker’s “Target” era. The first single from his long-awaited album, “No Heart Feelings”, hit the internet yesterday. While the production may have improved beyond his last few mixtapes (which have also sounded stellar in their own right), the sound is still uniquely Gerald. With that combination of hip hop and R&B, the national stage is about to get an even bigger dose of Gerald Walker, and this single is just the start of it. “Target” won’t drop until September 22nd, but he’s had a history of dropping several promotional tracks before his releases, so this summer will probably have lots of new Walker in store. Check out “No Heart Feelings” below:

A Very BNE Christmas: Allen’s Top 10 Christmas Songs

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals! If you’re a fan of Christmas, but hate the music, you’re getting an extra present this year. I’ve put together my top 10 Favorite Christmas songs. I painstakingly went through the light work of ranking ten songs, on Christmas Eve, just for you. There’s a lot of songs that I could have added, including probably the whole *NSYNC Christmas album, but ten songs will do. Play these at your favorite holiday parties.

#10: Kurtis Blow – “Christmas Rappin” – Besides being the sample for the Beastie Boys’ “Hold It Now, Hit It”, this track is a fun look at the kind of rapper Kurtis Blow was in his prime. It wasn’t so much about rapping, more as it was storytelling and entertaining.

#9: Joe Pesci – “If It Doesn’t Snow On Christmas” – I reluctantly added this song to the list. If you can believe it, in 1998, Joe Pesci had an album. A whole music album. Luckily, he was accompanied by Jimmy Vivino, Richie “La Bamba” Rosenberg, and other members of Conan O’ Brien’s late night band. This song, crude as it is, is pure Pesci.

#8: Gerald Walker – “Christmas Everyday” – Gerald Walker is the Johnny Mathis of the rap game, with not one but two Christmas mixtapes. While I could really put the whole tape on here, you’ll have to settle for just this one song.

#7: Nofx – “Xmas Has Been X’ed” – Why yes, I am a Nofx fan. And yes, Fat Mike and Eric Melvin are Jewish. But they have a Christmas song, ironically, and even though there’s an overarching commentary about the holiday itself, it’s just a good song.

#6: Blink 182 – “Happy Holidays, You Bastard” – Every kid that owned 2001’s “Take Off Your Pants And Jacket” knows this 42-second blitz of holiday frustration by heart. True story, the first time I heard this song, I was in the car with my mom after I bought the album. The look on her face was priceless, and now every year, she mentions it at some point. She also loves this song.

#5: The Treacherous Three – “XMas Rap” – I recently heard this on Sirius XM, and it’s full of early 80s glory. I want to breakdance just hearing it.Think of it as an early version of “Bad Santa”, talking about the struggle of Christmas in the hood. And Doug E. Fresh beatboxing in the middle? So awesome.

#4: Simple Plan – “My Christmas List” – My grade school pop-punk filled Christmases come to mind every time I hear this hidden track at the end of 2002’s “No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls”. 12-year-old me is smiling.

#3: The Ramones – “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)” – Have I ever told you I love The Ramones? Well I do. And they made a Christmas song. So it’s on here. Also, the video was great.

#2: Run-DMC – “Christmas In Hollis” – This is a classic. The definitive non-carol Christmas song. Even people that don’t like rap music like this song. I could probably play it any time of year, and still like it. Nobody’s topping Run-DMC, except…

#1: Mariah Carey – “All I Want For Christmas Is You” – Sorry, everyone. It’s just the best one. Admit it. You know it, too.

MIXTAPE: Gerald Walker – “Yesterday You Said Tomorrow”

In anticipation of his album, “Target” on the way, Gerald Walker dropped another mixtape, adding to an already strong slew of projects. “Yesterday You Said Tomorrow” follows in suit of Gerald’s previous releases, featuring production from Cardo and Sledgren of the Taylor Gang, as well as a hosting spot from DJ Rockstar. Gerald’s about to make some power moves, and you should be along for the ride. Click the link or the cover to check it out via DatPiff.

Milwaukee Artist of the Week – 10/5/12 – Gerald Walker

Are you a Milwaukee musician/band? You can submit your music to be the Milwaukee Artist of the Week by emailing links to info@BreakingAndEntering.net. We’ll check out every submission we get!

There’s so much to be said about what Gerald Walker has done within the past couple of years that it’s hard to put it all into one Milwaukee Artist of the Week post. For starters, he’s had seven releases in the past two years, and is beginning to work on his 8th (we assume, he’s just constantly putting out music). His tracks are produced by Cardo & Sledgren of the Taylor Gang (Wiz Khalifa’s producers). And in addition to all of that, he just had his first headlining show last night in Chicago, in support of his latest release On Your Side Part Deux, which came out last Friday. We had to showcase Gerald, because he was one of our biggest examples of Mllwaukee artists making it to the next level when we were pitching a music television show to local stations. He’s just one of the many examples of artists that are ready for the mainstream, and Gerald is already breaking into that level of popularity. Check out his latest video, which also just got released, for “Live It Up” from On Your Side Part Deux.

And, here’s “Bulletproof Soul”, from the Believers Never Die mixtape:

Gerald Walker – “Believers Never Die” (Mixtape)

A long time in the making, Gerald Walker’s new mixtape, “Believers Never Die” is out. No surprise, but it’s 17 tracks of smooth music, just in time for summer. More production from Taylor Gang producers Cardo & Sledgren, and definitely some awesome additions from Chicago’s own Slot-A, amongst others. Oh, did I mention XV, Phil Ade, and Skeme are all featured on a track? This is definitely going to be one of those tapes that I put on, and might never get out of my music rotation for a long time. Go get “Believers Never Die”. It’s free!

Gerald Walker – “Um, Excuse Me” (Video)

Gerald Walker just keeps going. A ton of people, myself included, are awaiting his Believers Never Die LP, which comes out on April 16th. Here’s a quick preview of what I’m assuming the whole project sounds like. I won’t complain about it if it does sound like this, anyway. Check out Gerald’s video for “Um, Excuse Me”, and make sure you download Believers Never Die on the 16th.

Pizzle – “Insomnia” (Mixtape) & “How 2 Jack” (Video)

I’ve watched Pizzle grow from his Pelicular mixtape to this point, and it’s amazing to see the progress he’s made. His “Fame in Vain” album was one of my favorite releases of last year, and this mixtape picks up right where that one left off, The production is solid all the way through, and it’s cool to see him collaborate with artists like Gerald Walker and Dee Phr3sh!, whose styles I wouldn’t really associate with Pizzle, but it works so well when you hear it. Download this tape via DatPiff.com

Also, check out the “How 2 Jack” video Pizzle released with this mixtape. This song is featured on “Insomnia”

Gerald Walker – “Girl, Oh No He Didn’t!”

Gerald Walker and Sledgren are working on his next project, “Believers Never Die”. He’s consistently smooth with every verse, and I’m a big fan of the vocals on his hooks. He’s always got these catchy hooks, and the double up vocals are as perfect as anybody could make them. Be on the look out for “Believers Never Die”, coming soon. Click the photo or here to get this song via HulkShare.

Girl, Oh No He Didn't!? (Prod. by Sledgren).

The Cranberry Show – “Paranormal Karaoke” (Free Album)

So… I really don’t need to post this. The Cranberry Show doesn’t need my help spreading this track around. This album was released today on DonutsAndMilk.com and DJBooth.net, which are both substantially bigger blogs than mine. But I just want you to hear this album. If you don’t download or listen to anything else that I write about, at least give The Cranberry Show a shot. And I’m not just saying that cause I produce for them once in a while. This is a solid album front to back. Click on the major hip-hop blog logo of your choosing to download the album. They’ll also be at The Rave tomorrow night, co-headlining an album release show with Mike Stud. I’ll be in the building. You should be too.

Holiday Music From Gerald Walker And Haz Solo

First off, I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Have a great weekend, and enjoy the company of your family and friends. While that’s all good and fine, I would like to point out that I generally try to avoid Christmas music as much as possible. I’m sorry. I can only take so much Johnny Mathis before I get sick of it. So, if you’re like me, your holiday music needs an upgrade. Luckily, Gerald Walker and Haz Solo have brought presents for you. Check out both of Gerald’s free Christmas mixtapes, “A Gerald Walker Christmas” and “It’s Christmas Time Again, Gerald Walker”, as well as a beat tape that Haz just released, “Haz Solo’s Jackson 5 Days Of Christmas”. Download each album by clicking the cover. Merry Christmas.

Gerald Walker – “The Other Half Of Letting Go”

I first heard Gerald Walker for the first time in winter 2009, shoveling snow in my alley. At some point before that, I had downloaded his “Evening Out With Your Girlfriend” mixtape, named after the Fall Out Boy album. In the time since then, I’ve watched him evolve to create his own sound, and now he’s doing tracks with Cardo & Sledgren from the Taylor Gang. Oh, and there’s a track produced by none other than Timbaland, too. And he’s from Milwaukee. So, support him, will ya? Download “The Other Half Of Letting Go” by clicking here or on the album cover

Gerald Walker – “Please Shut The Fuck Up”

If you don’t know Gerald Walker by now, you haven’t been looking at this blog semi-frequently. He released a new song from his mixtape “The Other Half Of Letting Go”, due out September 20th. Don’t worry. There will be a link to it here. Click the picture to download the song. Personally, I’m glad to hear this track, because I remember hating all of the comments saying that he sucked on 2DopeBoyz before his “On Your Side” Mixtape changed everyone’s mind. Plus, there’s a Milwaukee shout out on here. Can’t hate that.
