AUDIO: Ellee Grim – “I Think I’m Afraid Of You”

Ellee Grim of beloved pop punk act Honey Creek has breathed fresh air into her solo work with a new single, taking her songwriting in a totally new direction. AUDIO: Ellee Grim – “Majesty”

Emo singer-songwriter Ellee Grim reinvents herself as a dark pop artist with her latest single. She envisions herself as the force that takes down the oppressive capitalist administration we live under, becoming your new majesty. You’d better bow down unless you want her coming after you next. With a dash of hip hop swagger, Grim flexes from the shadows with her new single, and we look forward to what she’s got in store.

VIDEO: Mr. Nice Guy with Ellee Grim

Our Music Director, Ben Slowey, is more than on top of the local music scene. In addition to his work for Breaking And Entering, he also hosts the Mr. Nice Guy podcast, an interview-based show that reaches out to Milwaukeeans for conversations about what motivates them. Many of these shows fittingly involve the local music scene, and we’ll be sharing some of them here as well.

Today, Ben talks to singer-songwriter Ellee Grim, whose most recent single “New Moon / Coffee in the Shower” came out in October. They also play in pop punk band Honey Creek. They discussed Ellee’s move from Milwaukee to Boston, their experience interviewing bands at Warped Tour as a teen, Honey Creek’s new record “A Whole Year in Transit”, the recent solo singles, and her goal of going in a more dark pop direction. You can check out more episodes of Mr. Nice Guy on YouTube, and check out this interview below:

AUDIO: Ellee Grim – “New Moon / Coffee in the Shower”

Emo singer-songwriter Ellee Grim is out with a new acoustic A-Side/B-Side. The first track is an intimate tale of a renewed sense of self while the second is about voluntary isolation. The two songs contrast well with one another; Grim reflects on both the ups and downs of emotional turbulence, using outside warmth and pleasure-less drinking as metaphors for each mood. We hope to hear more from them soon.

AUDIO: Ellee Grim – “Greta”

Singer-songwriter Ellee Grim (of pop punk band Honey Creek) is out with a haunting debut single. They sing about existential dread, wishing for days their brain would work right despite not remembering what that feels like, wishing to see life in color again, and hoping their best days are ahead. There’s dark sentiments of being afraid of love, feeling we’re all being punished, and suicide not being worth it because we’re all dying anyway. There’s a brutal honesty with this song, as many have felt there’s little to feel hopeful about in 2020. However, music that reflects those fears is what gets us through it. We hope to hear more visceral releases from Ellee Grim soon.
