VIDEO: Mr. Nice GUy with Dukalion

Our Music Director, Ben Slowey, is more than on top of the local music scene. In addition to his work for Breaking And Entering, he also hosts the Mr. Nice Guy podcast, an interview-based show that reaches out to Milwaukeeans for conversations about what motivates them. Many of these shows fittingly involve the local music scene, and we’ll be sharing some of them here as well.

Today, Ben talks to hip hop artist Dukalion, whose most recent album “The Journey” came out last summer. Originally from Milwaukee, he now lives in LA. They discussed Dukalion’s gravitation towards music and performing from a young age, Caesar salads, his involvement with SAFS Crew, In-N-Out Burger, and “The Journey” being the first installment of a trilogy he’s working on. AUDIO: Dukalion – “The Journey”

Hip hop artist Dukalion has returned with a new project – the first in a trilogy of records that chronicle his growth as both an artist and as an individual in the last decade, all themed around setting sail in a lost ark. It’s quite an experimental take on hip hop featuring futurist production juxtaposed with esoteric lyrics about politics, culture, and curiosity. Dukalion dropped the lead single “Imhotep” last September. He’s got energetic delivery to back up the prolonged process this project took, so we look forward to hearing what else he has in store.

B&E Weekly Jams Presented By Bublr Bikes: 9/29 – 10/5/19

This week, you can check out new music from Genesis Renji, Renz Young, Blizz, Mic Kellogg and lots more. Don’t forget that you can always go through our archive of weekly playlists by following Breaking And Entering on Spotify, and check out this week’s playlist below:

AUDIO: Dukalion – “Imhotep”

The longtime collective known as SAFS Crew has had a big couple of weeks, and the latest from Los Angeles by-way-of Milwaukee emcee Dukalion, “Imhotep” is another strong addition to the crew’s recent releases. It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the veteran artist, but there’s no steps lost as he jumps on a Mike Regal beat with full energy from the moment things kick in. This is definitely one for the heads, with a beat full of bounce to get you nodding along, and a flow to match. This sounds like the first of much more to come from Dukalion, so we’ll be anticipating his next move. Check out “Imhotep” below:

AUDIO: Land By The Lake II, Part One (Premiere)

After months of build up, and pieces coming together, we have the first half of the Land By The Lake II compilation. A passion project unlike any other, the compilation album assembled by Dscribe brings together hip hop artists from throughout the city, all into one place. Part one is a hell of an album in its own right, featuring contributions from 25 Milwaukee artists, including No No Yeah Okay’s Colin Plant, Klassik, Raze, Mike Regal, and many, many more. There’s an incredibly deep lineup that touches on music from around the city, crossing generational gaps as well. And this is only the first half. Make sure you check out these artists individually, as well, but hearing their styles in a collaborative setting like this is something that makes this project stand out on its own as something creatively unique. Stream the first part of “Land By The Lake II” below:

AUDIO: RTystic Featuring Seismic and Dukalion – “Oh My Lord”

SAFS Crew is making an impact in a major way, with all of it’s members dropping gems as of late. The latest comes from RTystic’s upcoming “Deadly” EP, the second half of his “Silent But Deadly” album. The track is “Oh My Lord” featuring fellow SAFS Crew members Seismic and California transplant Dukalion. With a classic break beat flipped courtesy of Mike Regal, the crew has the perfect canvas to put a posse cut together on. All three emcees come correct with the verses, and your head should be nodding along to this one, even if you’re trying to stand still. In the buildup for the full “Silent But Deadly” project, check out “Oh My Lord” below:

Part One of “Land By The Lake 2” Tracklisting Announced

For years, Milwaukee hasn’t been necessarily collaborative, and a lot of that purely revolved around local artists’ apathy towards making the effort to work with one another. However, great collaborative projects are emerging, and the second installment of the Land By The Lake projects are dropping soon. The first half of the track listing was unveiled, and now we can see the level of talent set to appear on the new compilation. And there’s more on the way. The tape is set for a June release date:

2. Givin’ It Up – Klassik & Rizenhower The Great Poupon (produced by Came One) (Video by Xavier Ruffin)
3. Lake Shore Drive – Xavier Ruffin (produced by Moses)
4. Lake Drive Dreams – Raze (produced by Raze)
5. Doobies – Blax (produced by Mammyth)

AUDIO: Dukalion – “The Journey of The Lost Ark” EP

While he may have moved out west, Dukalion is definitely always representing Milwaukee. So it’s only right that we share that with him, and share his new EP “The Journey of The Lost Ark” EP with you. No matter what part of the country you’re in, this is definitely worth a spin in the car stereo. When it comes down to it, Dukalion can just rap, plain and simple. It’s just natural talent. Couple that with some sick production, and you’ve got a solid EP. Stream it below:

Mad Static, Taiyamo Denku & Dukalion – “Ghost In The Streets”

This is the first of Mad Static’s #FUCKWHOIOFFEND series of tracks, being released on Twitter amongst other outlets. Look out for more tracks from him, including one that may or may not be produced by yours truly…

Mifflin Street Block Party 2011 (Video)

So, it’s been a couple weeks, but I finally put together the video that I shot from the Mifflin Street Block Party this year. The video was really just to test out my new editing software, but I uploaded it to Youtube. Why not, right? Especially since there is a movement to shut the annual party down before next year’s event, due to some unfortunate violence by a select few of the thousands that attended this year. With that said, I urge everyone to go support the Save Mifflin cause on Facebook. Take a look at the party you’ll be saving. The video contains music from ¡Oye! and Klassik, The Cranberry Show, F. Stokes, and SAFS Crew representatives Dukalion, RTystic, and Seismic.
