AUDIO: BUG MOMENT – “The Lazer Collection”
Bug Moment are back online with their new EP The Lazer Collection, channeling the grungy emo and post-hardcore of the 2000s through a fuzzy, digitally warped lens. Their first release since their 2023 debut album The Flying Toad Circus, the new EP marks a significant sonic transformation for the group – shifting away from the homespun bedroom rock and folk of their debut, The Lazer Collection seeps with internet-savvy angst. Opener “Destroy All Monsters” flips a glitchy guitar riff and stuttering drums into a vigorous emo rager, while the singles “Arbiter” and “Chaos Emerald” sound fresh off a Halo soundtrack with stadium-size riffs and anguished vocals from lead vocalist Jasmine Rosenblatt. The project ends with “Moonlight Greatsword”, a My Chemical Romance-style epic that drives the final nail into 18 minutes of scuzzy, terminally online emo revival.
Each track on The Lazer Collection feels like it could be the theme song to a different scenester’s MySpace page, reading like a love letter to early internet culture and noisy mall-goth rock alike. Make sure to catch the group’s release show on March 8 at Cactus Club, with openers Hey, ILY and Blind Equation.
