“Nobody’s Dreaming” starts with almost nothing, a few synth tones hanging in open air, and takes its time deciding whether to become a song at all. That patience is the whole trick. Cloud, the Japan based producer who has quietly built a US heavy fanbase without the usual industry scaffolding, understands that tension works better than volume.

By the two minute mark the track has thickened into something closer to rock, synths layered until they start to feel like guitars, drums arriving late enough that their entrance actually means something. It is a familiar move, the slow build into a chorus that never quite explodes the way you expect, but Cloud executes it with more control than his numbers might suggest. Over 160,000 Spotify streams and radio placements are the kind of stats that usually get mentioned to justify a review, not earn one, and to be fair “Nobody’s Dreaming” mostly earns it on its own terms.

Where the song loses me slightly is in its refusal to fully commit. The anthemic swell is there, the emotional cues are all in place, but everything stays just out of reach, like Cloud is more comfortable suggesting a hook than delivering one. That restraint reads as intentional rather than accidental, and for listeners already invested in his catalog it will likely land as maturity. For newcomers it might just feel like a song that never quite lands the plane.

Still, there is a confidence running through this that separates it from his earlier work like “Overdrive.” Less eager to impress, more willing to let a mood sit uncomfortably long before resolving it. “Nobody’s Dreaming” is not a big single. It is a patient one, and in a year full of tracks trying too hard to be anthems, patience counts for something.
