Following the official dissolving of Milwaukee pop-punk supergroup Honey Creek last year, the band’s former vocalist and guitarist Ellee Grim is carving out a solo career in the world of internet-conscious digi-pop – her new track “on the news!!” is very online and absolutely irresistible. Grim’s playfully tongue-in-cheek writing style shines through a bubbly, frenzied electropop instrumental, bolstered by cheeky chiptune synths. The hook stands out as her catchiest to date, sticking the landing with an effortless momentum that firmly kicks the track into overdrive. Striking a delicate balance between frayed emotions and divinely digitized melodies, it definitely won’t take too many listens before this one gets firmly stuck in your head.
