VIDEO: Dres – “Countin’ Racks”

Pop-rap artist Dres made a surprise drop the other day with a video for his 2019 hit song “Countin’ Racks.” Shot by PhillyFlyBoy, Dres is shown here waking up and getting his day started, counting all the money he’s made with his success. He’s then out riding a bike, in a pool chilling on a Popsicle floaty, and sipping drink poolside just living large. His final stunt is jumping in the pool where there’s money swimming around with him. Dres is known for his warm scheme and colorful antics, and here he’s embellishing those in full force. It’s great to see what Dres has been up to as of late and we look forward to hearing more from him soon,

AUDIO: Dres – “Quarantine Pack”

While we’re stuck inside for quarantine, Dres found the time opportune to drop a mini project, with three new tracks making up his “Quarantine Pack”. Singles “Swap It Out”, “Entree” and “2 Fitted” make up the EP, with each having an overt sense of the poppier side of contemporary hip hop. The energy is up, the phrases are meant to be catchy, and it’s a small sampling of Dres’ intended appeal as an artist. These are songs that are meant to get stuck in your head, and you can check them out from home by streaming the “Quarantine Pack” below:

VIDEO: Mr. Nice Guy with Dres

One of our contributors, Ben Slowey, is more than on top of the local music scene. In addition to his work for Breaking And Entering, he also hosts the Mr. Nice Guy podcast, an interview-based show that reaches out to Milwaukeeans for conversations about what motivates them. Many of these shows fittingly involve the local music scene, and we’ll be sharing some of them here as well.

This time around, Ben Slowey talks to pop-rap artist Dres, whose singles “Countin’ Racks”, “Do It Big”, and “Twenty19” all came out the past year. He has been performing out in Milwaukee since the mid 2000’s. They discussed Dres’ come-up with music, his new songs, our guy Martin Moore, humility, and mental health. AUDIO: Dres – “Countin’ Racks”

Dres has made his presence in Milwaukee’s hip hop scene, leaning towards the pop side of contemporary hip hop, and making club friendly music with his latest releases. Today he dropped “Countin’ Racks”, another up-tempo track that checks all the boxes for an industry standard pop-trap release. The beat brings plenty of bounce, and Dres has an unrelenting swagger about himself that comes out in his effect-assisted delivery on the track. “Countin’ Racks” is a track that should move the needle for Dres, who has several singles under his belt in a similar vein, and has made uptempo swagger his calling card by this point. Check out the single below:

AUDIO: Dres – “Do It Big”

There’s something to say for being a personality within the local hip hop scene, and Dres is definitely an extension of his music. With a unique swagger all his own, the Milwaukee artist recently released a new single, “Do It Big”. There’s a pop music appeal to the music that Dres puts out, with an unapologetic, simple hook that makes a track memorable, and verses that aren’t trying to be too elaborate by choice. The confidence that he exudes in his delivery is what sells you on the record, with a braggadocios flow that embodies living like a mainstream hip hop star. The goal is definitely to be memorable with this single, and Dres does accomplish that with this track. We’ll watch for more from Dres soon, but for now, check out “Do It Big” below:

AUDIO: Kale Noel Featuring M.A. Johnson, B. Justice, Sharrod Sloans, Numero 8, Dres, Launde, and Benton – “Quiet The Room”

I wish that there was some sort of alarm that we could sound whenever a new posse cut emerges. However, the newest track from Kale Noel is much more than just an exhibition in how many verses he could get on one track. “Quiet The Room” features artists from all over the city, aiming to diminish the criticism that Milwaukee’s hip hop scene exists only in cliques. The track features M.A. Johnson, B. Justice, Sharrod Sloans, Numero 8, Dres, Launde, and Benton. Clocking in at over seven minutes, the song feels like a cypher at times, but if you’re looking for a track to put on and get a sampler of Milwaukee hip hop, this is definitely one to consider. Check out “Quiet The Room” below:

AUDIO: Dres – “Ballin’ Like Swish”

Dres has been his grind for some time now, but his delivery is extra strong on his new track, “Ballin’ Like Swish”. Produced by Mammyth, the track is the theme song if you’re going out tonight, with a club-ready feel to it. With a healthy amount of auto-tune, and some pitched synths, this one uses the full spectrum of your treble and bass knobs, but it’s well worth giving the speakers the workout. Given the way that the single is being distributed, it seems like a full album from Dres is in the near future. For now, the single is available on all iTunes, Spotify, and Tidal, and you can hear it below:
