AUDIO: No No Yeah Okay – “Changes”

Since the release of their “Cabal” EP last year, indie pop act No No Yeah Okay has been relatively quiet. In fairness, all of the members have other projects and companies to dedicate themselves to, but when they come together, it’s something special. That’s the case on their latest single, “Changes”, which came out on Friday. With just the right mix of digital and analog that we’ve come to know and love from the band, the track is another free flowing song that puts you in a good head space when you hear it. Vocalist Colin Plant almost seems to float over the production, with a smooth flow to his verses. “Changes” is likely the start of what may become another project rollout from No No Yeah Okay, which is totally fine with us as well as the band’s fans. AUDIO: Land By The Lake II, Part One (Premiere)

After months of build up, and pieces coming together, we have the first half of the Land By The Lake II compilation. A passion project unlike any other, the compilation album assembled by Dscribe brings together hip hop artists from throughout the city, all into one place. Part one is a hell of an album in its own right, featuring contributions from 25 Milwaukee artists, including No No Yeah Okay’s Colin Plant, Klassik, Raze, Mike Regal, and many, many more. There’s an incredibly deep lineup that touches on music from around the city, crossing generational gaps as well. And this is only the first half. Make sure you check out these artists individually, as well, but hearing their styles in a collaborative setting like this is something that makes this project stand out on its own as something creatively unique. AUDIO: False8o – “None Of Us Do”

When LMNtylist and No No Yeah Okay’s Colin Plant launched their side project, False8o, last year, it was the kind of music that kept you craving more. The combination of hip hop, pop, soul, and acoustic guitars created a hybrid reminiscent of acts like Gnarls Barkley, while still maintaining its own unique, creative identity. Not surprisingly, single “Zonin'” started receiving local radio play, and went largely underrated as far as the top songs of 2016 go. However, that project expanded its catalog greatly this week with the release of their debut album “None Of Us Do”. The album fills the void that “Zonin'” left for some time, with eight tracks in total of slick, fun music. The combination of LMNtylist’s production and Plant’s vocals mesh incredibly well with one another, and it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll have this album in your rotation for quite some time. AUDIO: AUTOMatic – “Marathon”

After a slew of great singles, AUTOMatic’s “Marathon” is now available in full today. The album contains eleven tracks of authentic Milwaukee hip hop, and a handful of features from artists around the city. This is the sound that is reminiscent of a different era of hip hop, sometimes revered as the “golden era”. Trellmatic and APRIME do what they do best, but they’re also aided by the likes of Colin Plant, Vincent VanGREAT, Signif, Stricklin, and DJ LoveLess. This is truly a group effort, and an incredible sounding album is the end product. “Marathon” is available now for purchase, and will the release show is tonight at the Cactus Club. AUDIO: False8o – “Zonin'”

The intersection of hip hop, indie, funk, and pop is a glorious one, with projects like Broken Bells, Gnarls Barkley, and more residing their comfortably, making tremendous music in the process. A new name that could feasibly added to that genre-blending intersection is False8o, the side project of NONOYEAHOKAY’s Colin Plant and LMNTlyst. The first release from the duo, “Zonin'” is incredibly well crafted, with the production matching Plant’s singing style perfectly. The end result is an energetic, poppy track that will have you buzzing after you hear it. Check out “Zonin'” below, and be on the lookout for more from False8o. Something tells me this is just the tip of the iceberg.
