AUDIO: Old Pup – “House of Wind”
Milwaukee indie folk singer-songwriter Old Pup is back with another single ahead of the release of his sophomore album Spider Towns – “House of Wind” is a freewheeling alt-country number that rolls along at the pace of a calm autumn breeze. Cushioned by warm violins and pedal steel tones, the track unravels itself as vocalist Will Hansen muses on abstract, surrealist visions of everyday life that almost read as modern folk tales (“I applied for a job as an inflatable dancer / but the boss said we don’t need no understudied freelancers here”). Fans of MJ Lenderman, Waxahatchee, or even Milwaukee’s own Sleepy Gaucho and Ladybird will all find comfort in the lush, subtly dreamlike acoustics on this one.
Spider Towns is out on February 28, and Old Pup will be celebrating the album’s release with a show at Cactus Club on March 15 with local opener Long Mama.
