AUDIO: BRETT NEWSKI – “Have a Thing, Miss Your Moment, Wait for the Revival”

Milwaukee’s favorite globe-trotting indie troubadour Brett Newski is back with a fresh full-length, and this one might be his most dynamic yet.

“Have a Thing, Miss Your Moment, Wait for the Revival” dropped May 1st via Nomad Union Music, marking another chapter in Newski’s seemingly endless creative output. Recorded under his Brett Newski & The Bad Inventions moniker, the album finds the DIY lifer leaning into a full-band format with 11 tracks that blend his signature folk-punk wit with rootsy, outlaw-country undertones.

If you’ve been following along—and let’s be honest, keeping up with Newski requires stamina—you’ve probably caught the singles leading up to this release, including “Paper Crown,” which got its premiere on Radio Milwaukee back in February. That track showcased a rawer, more road-worn sound that carries through the entire album.

The lead track “Again” is a perfect entry point: clocking in at just over three minutes, it rides a mid-tempo groove with acoustic warmth and that unmistakable Newski vocal delivery—equal parts sardonic and sincere. Audio features show a track that balances energy with introspection, sitting at a contemplative 91 BPM with high acousticness that reflects the stripped-down honesty we’ve come to expect from Milwaukee’s most restless songwriter.

For those unfamiliar, Newski has spent the better part of two decades bouncing between Milwaukee and whatever city, country, or continent will have him. He’s the guy who once played an unauthorized show at a Chipotle (spoiler: everyone hated it), and that anarchic, “why not?” energy permeates everything he does. Beyond music, he’s an author, illustrator, and podcaster—basically the Swiss Army knife of Milwaukee’s creative scene.

Have a Thing, Miss Your Moment, Wait for the Revival is available now on all streaming platforms.
