AUDIO: Educatable – “Thank You”

There’s a real sense of history behind Educatable, and you can hear it in “Thank You”. This isn’t a track that exists in isolation. It carries years of friendships, losses, and persistence, and that weight gives the song a lot of its character.

Educatable began life back in the early 2000s as a school band called 24/7, with Ricky Barson originally behind the drums. Over time, the project shifted names, members came and went, and the band grew from a small trio into something much bigger. The most defining chapter came when Educatable became a duo, with Barson working closely alongside singer and songwriter Dom Slone. Together they built something real, playing countless shows, picking up BBC radio support, and performing on stages most unsigned bands only dream of.

When Slone passed away, it could easily have been the end of the story. Instead, Barson chose to keep moving forward. Taking on lead vocals and guitar, he reshaped Educatable into a solo project while staying connected to its roots. “Thank You” feels like part of that transition. It sounds positive on the surface, but there’s depth underneath, the kind that comes from experience rather than intention.

Musically, the track sits comfortably in the indie pop-rock space. There are echoes of Coldplay and U2 in the wide, open feel of the production, mixed with the upbeat energy you’d expect from bands like Vampire Weekend or Two Door Cinema Club. Subtle influences from African and world music give it extra lift, helping the rhythm feel loose and alive rather than over-controlled.

It’s the kind of song that works best in a live setting. Bright, beat-driven, and built to move, “Thank You” has that warm, communal feel that turns gigs into shared moments. That connection seems to be what Educatable is about now, and it’s clearly resonating. Shows are selling out, crowds are growing, and there’s a sense that this new chapter is finding its audience naturally.
