AUDIO: Prophetic Psychosis – “ВЕРЛАНГ”

I’ll be honest, when I first heard “ВЕРЛАНГ” (Verlang) by Prophetic Psychosis, Iwasn’t sure what to make of it. It dropped back in October and I kept coming back to it because there’s something about it that just sticks with you.

The thing is, it’s not doing what you’d expect. There’s this restraint to the whole production that almost feels uncomfortable at first. Like they could have added more, layered it up, made it bigger. But they didn’t. And after sitting with it for a while, I get why.

Sometimes you hear a song and it feels like it’s trying too hard to impress you. This isn’t that. It’s more like someone sitting across from you, no bullshit, just saying what needs to be said. The stripped down approach actually makes the emotional weight hit harder. You can’t hide from it.

I looked up what “ВЕРЛАНГ” means and apparently it’s this interesting mix of German and French slang. The whole backward slang thing makes sense when you listen to it because the song is basically about deconstructing yourself, tearing down whatever defenses you’ve built up. It’s heavy stuff but it doesn’t feel preachy.

What gets me is how personal it feels while still being something anyone could relate to. We’ve all got walls we put up, right? This track just acknowledges that and sits in that space with you for a few minutes.

Not every song needs to be complicated. Sometimes simple and direct is exactly what works.
