AUDIO: Oogwé – “Rose”

A debut single is unquestionably a defining milestone for any young, burgeoning group. East side Milwaukee math rockers Oogwé know this, making their proper entrance into the city’s scene by letting sublime, progressive rhythms drive their wordless new track “Rose”. The band, named after a side character from the Kung Fu Panda movies, has been bouncing around basement shows and DIY gigs around Riverwest and the upper east side for nearly a year – “Rose” is a setlist staple at these shows, and the studio recording captures the frenetic chemistry that the trio plays so effortlessly off of. Building off charming bossa nova guitar licks and shuffling drums, the track subtly shifts and morphs over four and a half minutes into a noisy climax – ending in absolute catharsis as amp feedback fades back into silence.

Oogwé’s debut EP Staggering Beauty is out on April 24 – you can catch them next at Cactus Club on Wednesday, April 2, sharing the stage with Holy Pinto and ourVanity.
