Marsha Swanson is on top form with her new single release “My Rules”. For anyone who has not come across Marsha before, she is an artist who really gets stuck into her narrative and her way of articulating meaning is highly refreshing in an industry where lyrics often seem pretty rushed. Furthermore, “My Rules” is an exception to that norm with a storyline which has had me hooked from the start.

Have you ever come across a situation where you have little say in the matter? I highly predict that you will have done at some point in your life. That is something experienced by Marsha in this release as she explores the notion of challenging the rules which have been put in place by others. She speaks about rewriting the rules in her own way and paving her own path forward.

Vocally, Marsha has a powerful tone but she blends it with subtle and softer notes. It creates a dynamic sound which matches the feel of the music. Also, the music delves between calm moments and more energetic crescendoes and Marsha is continually exploring new ground with her music.
