Rocker and virtuoso, Cloud from Japan is back with a sensational new single, “Overdrive,” that is sure to electrify fans and newcomers alike. The track features crunchy guitar riffs and opens with a distorted guitar line that dances up and down the octaves, immediately drawing us in with its dynamic energy. “Overdrive” for me possesses a massive stadium-filling quality, its contagious melody gripping us instantly and holding our attention.

Around the 35-second mark, the drums join the fray with an almighty roar, propelled by Cloud’s powerful vocals, which push us deeper into the exhilarating mix. The track is an epic journey unlike any other and it clocks in at nearly eight minutes, quite long to say the least, but there is method in the madness. Moreover, at the two-minute mark, the vibe shifts dramatically as the bass guitar takes the lead forward and it is accompanied by Cloud’s echoey vocals.

But, just when we think we’ve settled into this new groove, the wall of sound heard earlier returns at around the four-minute mark. It’s the kind of chaos that feels exhilarating and liberating.
