Lizzie Kay and her collective Spider Creek are out with their debut album. If you don’t know Spider Creek then you’d better tap in – this album brings an eclectic, emotive approach to pop that incorporates elements of soul, R&B and hip hop. These songs are heartful, liberating and uncompromising as Kay lifts the veil from pain, love, anxiety and unapologetic confrontation. The instrumentation is diverse as well, utilizing horns and strings plus electronics and conventional band format; MAKATA is the lone feature, spitting a stylish verse on final track “Better.” Lizzie Kay and Spider Creek lay a rad foundation down with “Behind the Red Door” and we can’t wait to see where they go from here.
