AUDIO: Melanie MacLaren And Lorkin O’Reilly – “Tadpole Emporium”
Melanie MacLaren and Lorkin O’Reilly get the show on the road with new EP, ‘Tadpole Emporium’. This new EP solidifies the pair’s place in the modern songbook and brings with it a plethora of topics worthy of discussion. It is also full of surprising moments.
‘Tadpole Emporium’ has been bolstered by the addition of four tracks, each of which tells its own unique story. The first track on the new EP is ‘Clearance Aisle’, and it is a song that did the rounds as a single quite a few months before the new EP came out. It is Lorkin who greets us as we enter the new collaboration, and with his folky edge and vocal twang, he sets the tone for a successful start to the new endeavour. Lorkin and Melanie eventually run into each other somewhere in the middle of the song while an acoustic guitar plays in the background.
On the track ‘King Kong’, the duo bring some indie to the forefront, and the music has a vibe that is comparable to what you could anticipate from Bruce Springsteen. The vocals, on the other hand, are in a league of their own, with both members of the duo displaying exceptional ability and harmonising with one another in their performances.
The fact that ‘Sleeping With Headphones’ is now the song that has been streamed the most indicates that it is a favourite of the audience. In addition to this, it has a particularly evocative quality, with the guitar and the vocal penetrating the heartstrings in rapid succession. ‘My Idea’ serves as the final tune on the EP. It is here when the duo brings everything full circle, as the lyrics reflect the passage’s culmination.
