AUDIO: Barely Civil – “I’ll Figure This Out”
Emo rockers Barely Civil are out with their sophomore album, and it largely explores the individual’s confrontation with existential dread. Taking elements from indie and post-rock, vocalist Connor Erickson describes profound loneliness, analyzing one’s own toxic behaviors, self-imposed isolation, and hating the skin you live in; it all culminates into one of the most gut-wrenchingly sad records you’ll hear all year. While incredibly dark, the album’s title reflects how life persists and you find yourself surviving such pain. We commend Barely Civil on such a visceral odyssey; we look forward to what they’ll do next.
