Sylvan Esso’s second full length album is finally here, and the duo mixes experimental electronic with contemporary pop on “What Now”, and it’s definitely the follow up to 2014’s self titled album that fans were waiting for. Amelia Meath is a powerhouse when she needs to be, and vulnerable when the song calls for it as well; a testament to her range. The production from Wisconsin native Nick Sanborn is stellar as well, featuring brilliant elements like the buzzing synths during the chorus of “Die Young”. The combination of electronic and analog also gives the album some depth. For instance, portions of the track “Song” are largely centered around an acoustic guitar, giving the track some semblance of indie pop sensibilities. “What Now” is a gem, and definitely an album that will only appreciate over time.
