While Milwaukee has a very diverse musical landscape, this week’s Milwaukee Artist of the Week is Deletah, part of the ever growing EDM scene in the city. Comprised of Justin Richter and Jeff Alberts, this duo makes the most of every drop, wobble, and breakdown that they can. Their latest project, CTRL-ALT-DELETAH (Clever, right?), is 34 minutes of hard, uncompromising dubstep, fit for late night basement parties and larger venues, if necessary. The duo showcase that they are on par with the heavy hitters of EDM, with a take-no-prisoners attitude throughout. While other artists may look to incorporate more pop elements in their tracks, given the recent mainstream explosion of dubstep, Deletah decided to avoid that with a passion on this mix. This is most apparent on the high pitch wobbles of “Walk On Two Legs”, the second track on the project. From that track on, you can tell that this isn’t going to be pretty, polished dubstep, and it isn’t supposed to be. The next track, “Nosferatu The Vampyre” is a punch in the face, to say the least. It’s clear that Deletah are for EDM purists, and they want it that way.
The group gained a significant amount of attention for their first two EPs, and their website pulls in their mixes, both live and more polished, and compilations of remixes and loose tracks. They’ve also managed to grace the stage at the Summer Set Music and Camping Festival, amongst many other packed local shows, and deservingly so. Their energy in their music translates well to a live crowd, and the result are generally amped up, next level parties. With this latest EP in tow, look for Deletah to further cement their name as one of the major players in Milwaukee’s EDM scene.
