AUDIO: Lockjaw – “Un-Hinged EP”
Milwaukee’s industrial goth stalwarts Lockjaw have returned with a venomous three-track punch in the form of their brand-new Un-hinged EP, released just a few days ago. Led by the enigmatic Medavon DeRaj’e, this crew has been lurking in Cream City’s shadows since 1994, and three decades in, they clearly still have plenty left to say.
The EP kicks off with a scorching cover of the Rolling Stones classic “Paint It Black”—a fitting choice for a band whose entire ethos revolves around darkness and electronic-tinged aggression. Clocking in at just under four minutes, the track slithers through pulsing beats and distorted guitars with an energy rating that Spotify’s algorithm pegs at a relentless 75%. Translation: it hits hard. The tempo runs hot at 150 BPM, carrying that urgency Lockjaw has perfected through years of sharing stages with Marilyn Manson, Prong, Powerman 5000, and Wednesday 13.
If you’ve somehow slept on Lockjaw over the years, consider this your wake-up call. Their track “Bored Again” famously appeared on the Xbox 360 game Dead Rising, proving this band’s reach extends well beyond Milwaukee dive bars and regional fests. Un-hinged continues that tradition of industrial rock crafted for the restless and the rebellious.
