AUDIO: Fellow Kinsman – “Break Room”

After a rollout that tested the patience of even the most devoted Milwaukee music nerds, Fellow Kinsman have finally delivered Break Room, the long-promised full-length from Nate Kinsman and company. Originally slated for October 2025, the album took the scenic route to arrival, and based on the finished product, that extra time in the shop was well spent.

Break Room continues Fellow Kinsman’s ongoing experiment in what could only be called land-locked surf rock — sun-soaked guitar tones, breezy reverb, and the gentle melancholy of a city that spends half the year staring at frozen water and wishing it were the Pacific. Across tracks like “Find A Way,” the previously released single “Love Came Through,” and the title track itself, the band leans into hooks that feel both familiar and just slightly off-kilter, the kind of songs that sneak up on you between sips of coffee and turn into earworms by the second listen.

There’s a workmanlike charm to the record’s namesake, too. Break Room sounds like an album made by people who actually clock in — songs built in stolen hours, polished on weekends, and finally clocking out into the world with something to show for it. It’s indie rock with a lunch pail and a tan line.
