AUDIO: Cullah – “Warp Spasm”

Milwaukee’s open-source music pioneer Cullah drops his latest single “Warp Spasm” today, continuing the prolific streak that has defined his career for nearly two decades.

For those unfamiliar with Cullah’s ethos, he’s been releasing an album every year since 2006—all under open-source licensing—making him one of the most consistent and generous artists in the Milwaukee scene. The new single arrives just ahead of his traditional April 27 birthday release window, giving fans an early taste of what’s brewing in his creative universe.

“Warp Spasm” clocks in at just under three and a half minutes, delivering a moody, driving track that balances danceability with an unmistakably dark undercurrent. The production is tight and polished, featuring Cullah’s characteristic blend of electronic textures and organic instrumentation. There’s an urgency here—propulsive rhythms at nearly 120 BPM that pull you forward while the low valence creates an introspective, almost haunting atmosphere.

The title itself nods to Celtic mythology—the ríastrad, or “warp spasm,” being the legendary battle frenzy of Cú Chulainn, a figure Cullah has explored in recent work. It’s a fitting continuation of his mythological explorations while pushing into fresh sonic territory.
