AUDIO: GrooveGalore Muzik – “Is This Love”
Paul “GrooveGalore” Kastick has done something really powerful here. Instead of trying to replicate the original note for note, he’s stripped it down to its emotional core and rebuilt it from the ground up with Caribbean soul running through its veins. The reggae rhythms don’t feel forced to me or even gimmicky, they flow with ease, like this version was always meant to exist alongside Coverdale’s rock anthem.
KASTICK’s vocals are an immediate stand out. There is a raw quality in his delivery that cuts straight through the mix, carrying both the vulnerability and strength that made the original so powerful in the first place all the years prior. He doesn’t try to be David Coverdale, and that’s exactly why it works. His voice has its own character, its own pain, its own joy.
But it’s when Cen’C Love joins in that the track truly comes alive. Those harmonies create layers of sound that wrap around you, building the emotional intensity until you forget you’re listening to a cover at all. The interplay between their voices feels effortless, like they’ve been singing together for decades.
What strikes me too is how this version honors the original while being completely fearless about making it something new. You can hear influences from Bob Marley’s spiritual depth, Van Halen’s energy, Prince’s innovation, and Third World Band’s groove all swirling together, but it never feels like a collection of borrowed parts. It feels cohesive, purposeful, alive
