Buffalo Nichols recently returned with new music, and “The Fatalist” is eight tracks of southern-rooted blues. Rather than being entirely true to the genre, though, he’s not afraid to play with a more adaptive version of the genre, incorporating synthetic drums and vocal processing into the mix at times. The heart and soul of the blues is still ever-present, though, with an earnest delivery that transports you to visions of southern living with every slide of the lapsteel guitar.
