AUDIO: Joan Hell – One/Two/One

Summer is here, and so is another Joan Hell track. “One/Two/One” uses police radio chatter as an instrument, a unique choice that makes the song ‘catchy’ without having lyrics. The dispatcher’s voice is sandwiched between floaty synths and kicks throughout, and the song overall builds a good amount of tension and releases it with bassy drops. Basslines are syncopated, the artist explains, meaning displaced beats stress weaker beats specifically. Up Hell’s sleeve is a Pride-themed track slated for mid-August, she added.
