Velocihamster, the world’s only lap steel metal band, are out with their sophomore album. Entirely instrumental, the nine-track record has fierce attitude and well-oiled vitality. Featuring two covers, “Misirlou” by Dick Dale and “First Tube” by Phish, each tune is akin to elegantly strange imagery but also eccentric fun. With prog and math rock components, Sean Williamson has said that he’s been having a blast experimenting with his lap steel during the pandemic and hopes records like these can shed light on the seamless potential it has.
