There’s something to be said for those attempting to keep lyrics and style alive within hip hop, and the latest EP from Milwaukee emcee Quill The Messenger is definitely in tune with that. With an emphasis on flow, a friendly helping of turntablism, and a style reminiscent of an earlier day, “Winter Garden” is a nostalgic-feeling album without seeming dated. This release is six tracks of authentic hip hop, with Quill making music purely for the love of the art rather than commercial success.
