Twitter can be powerful. If you don’t regularly keep up with Milwaukee musicians on Twitter, then you missed the anarchy that ensued after one tweet from Wale. One simple question; “Who’s the hottest rapper in Milwaukee?”, incited a virtual riot, complete with hashtags, mentions, and plenty of Soundcloud, DatPiff, and Reverbnation links. This resulted in one of the busiest #MKEMusicMondays that we’ve ever had, and also introduced us to this week’s Milwaukee Artist of the Week, Cardiac. In a word, Cardiac is gritty, and his upcoming EP, “The Shaded Grey EP” should be more of the same.
The first track that we heard from Cardiac, “Self Made”, is a street anthem in the making. With features from fellow locals Carlo Keese and Boss Jay, this track is pure toughness. With a mean flow and solid production from Rell Beats, Nimic, and Artthebeat, Cardiac has qualities to his sound that go far beyond most newcomers to the Milwaukee scene. This is, in part, because Cardiac has a couple of previous releases under his belt. The next track that we heard from him, “B.M.I”, follows suit from “Self Made”. Again, killer bass heavy production, and obvious toughness exemplified in Cardiac’s bars. His verse exudes nothing but confidence, as you would expect from any emcee with the bravado to utter the opening bar “it’s a cold world, and I got the sniffles”. Anything less than confidence would make this line seem laughable, but Cardiac pulls it off with ease. Stream these tracks below, and be on the lookout for “The Shaded Grey EP”. From Cardiac’s previous body of work below, you can expect pure bass heavy trunk music, and who doesn’t love that?
