This week’s Milwaukee Artist of the Week was actually discovered when filing through the massive list of local music at this year’s Summerfest. Boy Blue is a power pop outfit that blends synths and live instruments seamlessly. In fact, their sound is the a more than appropriate soundtrack for any summer, and their latest EP, Words on Trial, is no exception. Self-described as a hybrid between Death Cab for Cutie and Passion Pit, the group brings a frantic, high energy level to their songs, mixed with frontman Josh Loeffelholz’s calm vocals over the top. Words on Trial is the group’s second release, following their debut EP, I Liked You Better. Featured on the first EP is “Robot Tube Socks”, a track so addictive that it won 88Nine RadioMilwaukee’s “Catchiest Song of the Year” award in 2011. With a blistering mix of electro and indie, Boy Blue is guaranteed to get one of their songs stuck in your head. Check out the video for “Downtown” from their first EP below, along with both of their EPs via Bandcamp.
