This week’s Milwaukee Artist of the Week is rapper/spoken word artist/poet Emmitt James. A student of UW-Steven’s Point, James is a new rapper, but has been writing rhymes since his high school days. At only 19 years old, he’s competed twice in Russell Simmons’ Brave New Voices event, the largest youth international poetry slam. James is also a published poet; he recently released his first poetry book, “Food Stamps and Other Forms of Reparations”, in March. Following that, James took his skills to his debut mixtape, “Are You Listening Yet?”, which was released this June. Check it out on Get Right Music below:
