AUDIO: Oh Geeez Not Again – “Painted By Numbers”

Milwaukee’s own indie-pop outfit Oh Geeez Not Again just dropped “Painted By Numbers,” and true to form, the quartet refuses to color inside the lines.

Released last Friday, the track is a three-and-a-half-minute burst of kinetic energy that crackles with urgency. The song barrels forward at a brisk clip, driven by punchy rhythms and a restless momentum that makes standing still feel like a crime. Yet beneath all that propulsion lies something more brooding—there’s a melancholic undercurrent running through the track that adds real weight to the sonic fireworks.

The combination isn’t new for the band, but it’s sharpened here. Sean McGibany, Jack Gilmond, Alex Dollenmayer, and Joe Ludwig have been honing this push-pull dynamic for a while now, but “Painted By Numbers” feels like a refinement of their craft. It’s the sound of a band that’s figured out how to bottle lightning and sell it with a knowing wink.

For a crew that’s been fixtures on stages from Summerfest to WMSE’s Local/Live sessions, Oh Geeez Not Again continues to prove why Milwaukee’s indie scene punches well above its weight class. If you haven’t been paying attention, now’s the time.
