Maximilian and the Reinhardt is the project of singer-songwriter Kevin Hill, who moved to Milwaukee in 2018 from Washington DC. His latest album came out in March, conceptualized during peak COVID times as a means of coping with the unrelenting sociopolitical chaos and despair, titled for Hill’s comfort in walking along Lake Michigan during the bleakness. Blending styles of progressive rock and ambient psychedelia, Maximilian and the Reinhardt conjures an emotive, cinematic voyage that finds solace in grand, wide open sonic spaces, invoking a sense of triumph and wonder. “The Lake” corrals creative conduits in the face of being destitute of stimulation.
