Experimental act Boy Dirt Car released a new album last week. Over eight tracks, the duo engages with the ominous, caustic soundscapes of looming guitars and fearsome electronica that they’re known for while implementing odd samples of answering machines and radio chatter plus spoken passages to amplify the menacing atmospheres. Improvising the unnerving comes organically to Boy Dirt Car, whether it’s patient (“Gloaming”) or anxious (“Stolen Car”). “Lies About Wives” is a prime exhibition of the long-running act’s harkening to decayed nostalgia and dystopian resonance.
