Ju Preach’s recent project, “Dungeon Boyz, Vol. 1,” has the spirit of a throwback to a bygone era of hip-hop, reminiscent of classic mixtape styles that exude authenticity and lyrical prowess. The nine-song collection is a solo endeavor, with the exception of an appearance from Emaad on “The Resolution.” Embracing soulful samples and drum patterns, the beats on this project evoke a little bit more substance than most. “Dungeon Boyz, Vol. 1” stands out by not relying solely on swagger, making for a tape that you’ll want to run back multiple times.
