AUDIO: Riotnine – “Death Before Detransition”
This is Milwaukee post-hardcore band Riotnine’s first EP, and these zoomers aren’t shy about their love affair with ‘90’s skramz – they’ve gone as far as rebranding it as their own in “Death before detransition.” The subject matter is filtered through rage and melancholy, as emo music does, but it has a point. Guitarist Cleo Jackowick and bassist Danny Calderon are screaming because their identities are under attack and they want to make their position clear. On top of the studio production cleaning up the sound compared to the rawness in their shows, it also enhances it. Just check out the horns in “Death before detransition” for example, which changes the experience of the song completely. Listen for yourself below.
