Alex Takton dropped an album this fall, and he linked up with producer Godxilla for “Live From Waukesha County Mental Health Unit B.” The ten-track project is dripping with retro influence, but the flow is on point from Takton, taking on a myriad of topics from track to track. There’s a uniqueness to the way that he approaches a song, staying on topic in a way that is actively rare in the current hip hop climate. The beats hit just right, and the verses keep you locked in, giving you something to get hooked on with each song. “Live From Waukesha County Mental Health Unit B” feels like it should be not only a physical CD, but one that gets scuffed and nicked in the car from regular play.
