As it stands, the “No Hook” track may be its own subgenre of hip hop, much like the craze of “type beats” on producers and the ever-growing debate of what constitutes a true freestyle. Milwaukee artist Cleo Fox is on that trend, with a full project of “No Hook” tracks. With seven tracks, including collaborations with Lavish Liam and Jay The Fox, Cleo is in his element on the project, mixing hip hop and autotuned melodies. The trio of artists treat this release like an exhibition of skill rather than a formal project, trading off verses throughout the entire tape. In a scene where everybody is looking to be at the forefront of trends, Cleo Fox and co. are looking to be the most trendy on this project, but still manage to get their style out to the world.
