VIDEO: Josh Jenkins – “Melanin”
The ability to make a statement that reaches people is within very few people, but the latest video from Milwaukee artist Josh Jenkins, “Melanin”, does exactly that. The track in itself is a strong representation of the social issues affecting people of color, predominately African-Americans, but the video makes multiple statements on a new level. In addition to performance clips of the track from “Lionh3arted”, visuals including confederate flags, chains, and news report footage about the death of Dontre Hamilton and other notable deaths at the hands of police. The clip ends with an image and description of the death of Latare Nixon, who was killed by Milwaukee Police. It’s a profound impact to make in one music video, but Jenkins does so in a way that drives the messages at hand home. Check out the video for “Melanin” below:
