When your lyrics come from your real life or the real world around you, there’s always a better chance of connecting with listeners. That being said, new Milwaukee artist Da Journalist is just beginning to get his name out to the city, but doing so in a way that people can relate to. On his single, “The Real”, Da Journalist and featured artist Macho Mil combine to talk about the everyday struggle of those living in Milwaukee’s impoverished neighborhoods, and while it may not be their personal narrative, it does reflect the people that they see on a daily basis. With the concept of storytelling through lyrics, Da Journalist may very well make an impact on the local hip hop scene, and tracks like “The Real” are just the beginning of that.
