Sometimes, it seems like Taiyamo Denku is on a one-man crusade to keep boom bap alive. On his new track, however, Denku brings Mistaloo Meff along for the ride, and both put their skills on full display on “Sandman’s Sanity”. Produced by Australian producer and CyphaDen collaborator DCypha, the track puts an emphasis on lyricism, with both artists putting in their share of clever bars and expert flows. The one thing that Denku and Dcypha do better than most is simple; they manage to take the classic boom bap sound and produce it in 2017 in a way that doesn’t feel dated when you hear it, which is much harder to do than it appears.
