Milwaukee Artist of the Week – 5/17/13 – Blizz McFly

This week’s Milwaukee Artist of the Week is a fairly established artist, Blizz McFly. By no means is Blizz a newcomer to Milwaukee hip hop, but his flow has the hunger of a rookie on every track that he puts out. On every project that he has put out thus far (5 mixtapes, in addition to numerous features on other artists’ tracks) Blizz puts the spotlight on himself, bringing an incredibly smooth flow. If you listen closely, though, there’s guaranteed to be a line or two that begs for the rewind button, because you need to go back to catch his metaphors and clever wordplay. For many artists, it would be hard to match lyricism with a consistent flow, but Blizz makes it look easy.

Last Saturday, Mcfly released his latest project, Flight 89, which should be a summertime soundtrack for fans of ultra smooth hip hop. The 15 track release features laid back production from SAFS Crew affiliates Klassik and Mammyth, along with several other talented producers, including araabMUZIK. Mcfly handles every track with ease, and gets some help lyrically from several local artists, including former Milwaukee Artists of the Week Genesis Renji, Klassik, and RTystic, amongst others. Throughout the entire tape, there is a consistent, undeniably cool sound, guaranteed to keep your head nodding along. Every track varies in sound, but no track sounds out of place, which is a flaw that a lot of mixtapes (and albums, for that matter) fall into. Do yourself a favor, and download Flight 89 for the car. It’s perfect summertime ride along music. You’ll be glad that you did.
