AUDIO: Polo Perks – “AMERICAN PIE EP”

After a year of working with Milwaukee creatives and cutting his teeth both on the city’s biggest and smallest stages, New York rapper Polo Perks embraces the lowend sound on his new AMERICAN PIE EP – proving once and for all that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Coming off of the summer release of “A Dog’s Chance”, a high-octane collaborative tape with Milwaukee rapper AyooLii and Atlanta producer FearDorian, Polo’s deep love for the Milwaukee rap scene has never been more evident. On AMERICAN PIE, he trades his icy, lush New York drill rhythms for pulsating handclaps and rattling sub-bass, rapping over beats you can only imagine being blasted from car windows on North Avenue. What hasn’t changed is the rapper’s tendency to sample midwest emo, screamo, and post-hardcore riffs – “ELVISPRESLEYISDEADASFUCK” flips a track from a defunct Montana band into a grimy, scuzzy lowend beat where Polo finds his perfect pocket.
