Leah Nawy Blossoms on Debut EP ‘I Could Bloom From Here’ and Shares New Single “Walking”

Some records arrive fully formed. Others, like Leah Nawy’s long-awaited debut EP I Could Bloom From Here, spend years quietly rooting themselves before pushing up into the light. The NYC-based indie pop artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist has finally shared her first full body of work, and it’s a seven-song bouquet that captures half a decade of growth, revision, and letting go.

A Debut Five Years in the Making

I Could Bloom From Here isn’t a snapshot — it’s a time-lapse. Nawy wrote and reworked these songs across a pivotal chapter of her life, resisting the urge to force them to grow up alongside her. “For a long time I kept trying to get the older songs to keep up with who I was as I kept growing,” she says. “At a certain point, I knew I had to stop reworking them, let them be what they were, and set them free.”

The result is a debut that reads like a scrapbook with fresh ink in the margins. Previously released singles “Mixing Patterns,” “ordinary,” “Quicksand,” and “I Was A Flower” sit alongside three brand-new songs, now rewired with stripped-back moments, orchestral textures, distorted rock choruses, synth-driven sound design, soaring sax solos, and the occasional unexpected groove shift. Same lyrics, new life.

Meet “Walking,” the Earliest Seed on the EP

The newest single, “Walking,” is actually the oldest song on the record — the very first track Nawy wrote for the project after moving to NYC. It opens with a zapping, energetic guitar line and gradually layers in choral arrangements, saxophones, and a live rock band for a cathartic, folk-leaning payoff.

“‘Walking’ is an indie-folk song about letting go and accepting what you cannot change,” Nawy explains. “It’s about the peace in learning to accept yourself and others where they’re at.” It’s a quietly confident opener-of-a-new-chapter — the sound of someone finally arriving at the next destination and realizing they’ve been walking there all along.

The Artist Behind the Bloom

A Taiwanese-American songwriter raised on the Jersey Shore rock circuit and sharpened at The New School and BerkleeNYC, Nawy pairs classical training and music theory chops with the instincts of someone who grew up in sweaty band rooms. Her touchstones — Brittany Howard, Mitski, Japanese Breakfast, Wolf Alice, Frank Ocean, The Beatles — show up less as influences and more as permission slips, giving her space to blend indie rock, folk, and soul without worrying about which lane she’s in.

Last year’s “Mixing Patterns” earned nods from The Boston Globe, Atwood Magazine, The LUNA Collective, and Undertone Magazine, and the EP version only sharpens its airy, electric-guitar-driven rush toward self-discovery.
