Emma Ogier Teams With Eden Joel on New Single “Rocksteady/HeavyMetal,” Announces ACL Fest & Hovvdy Tour

Emma Ogier has a knack for turning emotional messiness into something you can hum along to, and her new single “Rocksteady/HeavyMetal” might be her sharpest trick yet. Out now via Lost Highway, the track pairs the Nashville-based singer-songwriter with fellow rising talent Eden Joel for what Ogier affectionately calls a PBF — post-breakup-friendship — anthem.

Produced by David Baron (The Lumineers, The Felice Brothers), the song started life in the summer of 2024 as a bedroom demo, hatched from Ogier’s wrestling match with the loneliness and electricity of pursuing a music career. “I made a quick demo of what is now the intro of this song, and brought it to one of my favorite collaborators, Eden Joel, to make a song of it,” Ogier says. “Our relationship is special and complicated and has always possessed a serious-feeling of depth… real love is when you still hope for the others success and joy.”

Joel echoes the sentiment, recalling how the pair wrote the song with “the sole intention of making each other laugh.” That lightness bleeds into the finished product — a track that acknowledges the gravity of a shifting relationship without ever losing its sense of play. The accompanying video, shot in Nashville by director Joey Brodnax, matches that energy, cutting between easygoing summer footage and kinetic live performance.

The single arrives on the heels of a career-defining stretch for Ogier. She recently joined Bright Eyes onstage for a trio of shows celebrating the 21st anniversary of I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, stepping into the Emmylou Harris harmony role on cuts like “Land Locked Blues.” Americana Highways called her “the highlight” of the I’m Wide Awake set, noting she was “one to watch.” When the Forest Hills Stadium show got rained out mid-set, the band and Ogier famously decamped to a nearby bar to finish the gig — the kind of story that tends to follow artists on their way up.

Up next: Ogier plays Weekend One of Austin City Limits Music Festival (October 2–4) before hitting the road with Hovvdy on the first leg of their North American tour, including an October 20 stop at Sid The Cat Auditorium in Los Angeles.
