Colton Dawson Finds His Own “Piece Of Heaven” With Soul-Stirring New Single
Country music’s traditionalist revival just picked up another serious contender. Warner Records Nashville’s Colton Dawson is out today (July 10) with “Piece Of Heaven,” a heart-aching new single that pulls directly from the ’90s country playbook — all steel-soaked atmosphere, slow-burn phrasing, and the kind of vocal maturity that makes you double-check the singer’s birth certificate.
Here’s the kicker: Dawson didn’t write this one in some polished Music Row co-write. He wrote it at 16, on a houseboat, on a fishing trip in Canada. It was only the second song he’d ever put to paper.
“It was before I really knew anything about songwriting, and I just put some words to a melody,” Dawson said. “The song is about a good thing going bad and wishing things were the way they used to be. I’ve been waiting to record this song and put it out for years, and I’m glad it’s finally here.”
That teenage honesty is exactly what makes “Piece Of Heaven” land. The track tells the story of a love that once felt divine and has since unraveled, with Dawson aching for a version of the relationship he can feel slipping out of reach. The hook says it all: “Our little piece of heaven has done gone to hell.” It’s the kind of line George Strait or Alan Jackson would’ve happily cut in 1996 — and that’s a compliment of the highest order.
Dawson’s last single, “It’s Gonna Rain,” already turned heads across the country world. Randy Travis himself weighed in with, “Great voice! Love the song, Colton! We’ll be seeing a lot of you!!” Saving Country Music called him an “exquisite” new voice “rocketing up the depth charts of young neotraditionalists,” while Entertainment Focus praised his “depth and emotional maturity.”
The Arizona-to-Nashville riser is also stacking real road miles behind the catalog. He’s joining Lainey Wilson and Braxton Keith on select summer dates, after already sharing stages with HARDY, Clay Walker, Jake Worthington, and Josh Turner. His sold-out Ryman debut opening for Clay Walker — just him and a guitar — earned him two standing ovations. Two.
With “Piece Of Heaven” now joining “It’s Gonna Rain” and “Might Be In It” in his growing catalog, Dawson is quietly building one of the more exciting young traditionalist discographies in Nashville. If you’ve been waiting for a new-school country artist who actually sounds like he studied the old school, this is your cue.

Mark 16:15 – _And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature._
*1.* This is not a suggestion, it is a command from the risen Christ — you were not saved to sit still, you were saved to move, to go beyond your comfort, your church walls and your circle, and carry the good news of Jesus to a world that is desperately waiting for hope.
*2.* God did not call only pastors and evangelists to this assignment, He called you — in your office, in your market, on your WhatsApp, in your family — because your world is your mission field and someone’s salvation is tied to your obedience to open your mouth.
*3.* The gospel is not just a story to be told, it is power to save, to heal, to deliver and to restore, and when you preach it sincerely, heaven backs you up with signs and wonders that confirm that Jesus is still alive and still saving today.
*4.* Don’t wait until you feel qualified, eloquent or perfect, because Jesus did not say go when you are ready, He said go — and as you go, He will equip your mouth, give you boldness, and make your simple words carry eternal weight in the hearts of those who hear you.
*5.* Every creature deserves to hear that Jesus loves them, died for them and rose for them, and if you keep quiet, that soul may never hear it from someone else — so rise today, carry the light of the gospel wherever you go, and let your life and your voice tell the world that Jesus saves.
