Randy Travis Reels In Nostalgia With Newly Unearthed Original Single “Fish On”

There are few voices in American music as instantly recognizable as Randy Travis’s baritone, and today it’s rolling back into our ears with the gentle swagger of a cane pole bobbing in a summer current. The country music legend has officially released “Fish On,” an original tune pulled straight from the vault and polished up for 2026.

Co-written by Travis and his longtime bus driver and dear friend Ron Avis, “Fish On” is exactly what it sounds like: a back-porch, boot-scootin’ ode to wetting a line wherever the water runs. “We’re going ocean to ocean and all points in between / Headin’ for some waters few have ever seen,” Travis sings, and if that doesn’t put a cold drink in your hand and a tackle box at your feet, nothing will.

The track was unearthed by Travis’s longtime producer Kyle Lehning, who assembled, remixed, and remastered the recording so fans could finally hear it the way it was meant to be heard. The result is pure neo-traditional Randy Travis — warm, unhurried, and dripping with the kind of nostalgia that only a GRAMMY-winning voice recorded in his prime can deliver.

“I wrote this song with my longtime bus driver and dear friend Ron Avis, and it’s incredibly special to me that it’s been found in the archives,” Travis shared, with help from his wife Mary. “Having my longtime producer, Kyle Lehning, do what he does best has made bringing it back to life even more meaningful. I’ve always loved fishing and country music, and being able to share this song so many years later means a great deal to me.”

“Fish On” marks the first single from Travis’s upcoming album — his first collection of original music in 18 years, with every song recorded before his 2013 stroke. For an artist whose catalog includes 23 No. 1 singles, seven Grammys, and three CMA Song of the Year honors (“On the Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen,” and “Three Wooden Crosses”), the arrival of “new” vault material feels less like a release and more like a reunion.

The timing is poetic. 2026 marks 40 years since Travis’s multi-platinum debut Storms Of Life, and this fall he’ll wrap his sprawling More Life Tour — a 54-city, 24-state run that has reconnected him with fans in the most personal way possible. Upcoming stops include Hiawassee, GA (Aug. 21), the Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair (Sept. 25), Austin’s Long Center (Oct. 14), Dallas’s Longhorn Ballroom (Oct. 15), Albuquerque’s Popejoy Theatre (Oct. 23), and a tour-closing stretch through Oklahoma City, Topeka, and Branson in November.
