Southpaw FLHC Drive the “Nail In the Coffin” Ahead of Debut Album ‘The Standard’ Out July 31 via Spinefarm
Jacksonville’s fast-rising hardcore outfit Southpaw FLHC are not here to play nice — and they want you to know it. The quartet, made up of vocalist Daryn LaMontagne, guitarist Alan King, bassist Marc Laroche, and drummer Harrison Linder, have just dropped the video for their crushing new single “Nail In the Coffin,” a percussive, pit-starting anthem that lands ahead of their highly anticipated debut full-length, The Standard, out July 31 via Spinefarm.

Don’t let the ominous title fool you. “Nail In the Coffin” isn’t a funeral dirge — it’s a resurrection anthem wrapped in gnarly breakdowns, three-chord fury, and shout-along choruses built to incite walls of death from coast to coast. The track is a conversation between who you were and who you’re becoming, and Southpaw FLHC want you to bury the weakest version of yourself right alongside them.
“‘Nail in the Coffin’ is ultimately a conversation with your current and past self,” LaMontagne explains. “We are not defined by what we are born into nor do we have to be a victim of the people, situations, or places at play. Your future self will be thankful for those times, people and places. Because that is what will make you stand taller, stronger, more wise and stoic in the end.”
He continues, “When you seek a better way of life, it’s not about getting to the destination as quickly as possible. Instead, it’s about the daily decisions you make and the person you become because of those decisions. Driving that final nail in the coffin and burying a weaker version of yourself will ensure that you never become a product of what you were thrown into. This is an experience of ENLIGHTENMENT.”
That mindset — equal parts self-empowerment manifesto and knuckle-sandwich hardcore — is the backbone of The Standard. The 10-track record bridges the old and new generations of hardcore, pulling from punk, metal, and hip hop in a way that feels both nostalgic and genuinely forward-moving. As the band puts it: “All gas, no brakes. Driven by hunger, discipline, and a relentless passion for the love of the game. This is The Standard.”

Southpaw FLHC first crashed the scene with their 2020 self-titled EP and haven’t eased off the throttle since, stacking up seven singles, nonstop touring, and stage time with the likes of Bodysnatcher, With Blood Comes Cleansing, Tracheotomy, Surfaced, and Hoods. Their 2025 headline run alongside Cutthroats, Kind Eyes, Unvow, and Resistor further cemented their reputation as one of the hardest-working acts in the game. Now, with Spinefarm — the label home to Sleep Token, Bullet For My Valentine, Dayseeker, and Atreyu — in their corner, the ceiling just got a whole lot higher.
To celebrate the album, Southpaw FLHC are hitting the road for a late summer headline tour that kicks off with a hometown record release show on August 1 at Hardlove in Jacksonville before snaking through the South, Midwest, and East Coast through mid-September.
