Written by Mark “Brink” Brinkman and David Stewart, “The Dreams I Dream” opens on the image of an elderly man alone on a city sidewalk. It would be easy to walk past him. Easy to make assumptions. But as the song unfolds, we learn he is a veteran, still carrying the weight of a war most of us will never understand. It is a story about the invisible scars so many service members bring home — and a quiet reminder that compassion may be the most valuable thing any of us have to give.

“This song is a little different for me,” Sisk says. “I was drawn to it because of the exceptional, and probably all too real, story that it tells. It actually gave me cold chills and brought tears to my eyes when I heard it. The sacrifices so many made often go unrecognized, and I wanted to honor their service in some small way through this song.”

There is another first tucked inside this recording. For the first time in his career, Sisk brought a dobro into the mix, with Randy Kohrs delivering a haunting performance that gives the track its aching, ghostly undertone. “As I worked on the arrangement, I could clearly hear a dobro was needed,” Sisk explains. “I think it came together very well, and I hope it stirs up the same feelings in y’all that it did in me.”

Sisk is joined on the track by a stacked lineup of pickers and singers: Heather Berry Mabe on harmony vocals and guitar, Tony Mabe on harmony, Johnathan Dillon on mandolin, Curt Love on bass, and the incomparable Michael Cleveland on fiddle. The single was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Wes Easter at Eastwood Studio in Cana, Virginia, and co-produced by Sisk and Easter.
